Of all of the levels and courses I have taught I like teaching beginning drawing the best. I am always amazed at that moment when students begin to really see, to understand how to interpret what they are seeing and begin to develop their own way of working. There is much about beginning drawing that is often a struggle at first- learning to measure, understanding the planes of an object, figuring out how to create depth. But as students grasp concepts, develop skill the process also has results that also go beyond developing drawing ability. Drawing is a means to an end. The real goal is to transform how you see so you see like an artist, see like a designer. The ability to observe is the first creative act.
